Sun Lakes United Methodist Church has a rich history…
Sun Lakes United Methodist Church celebrated its 30th Anniversary in November, 2017.
“Blessed are those who build the house of the Lord” Psalm 127:1
We grew from a cotton field located in the South Valley about 25 miles from Phoenix. Our first planning group met in 1987 and elected a Steering Committee and began to clear the land. Modular units were provided by the Desert Southwest Conference and we then began raising funds for a brand new building.
On December 6, 1987 our Church became certified by the Desert Southwest Conference and was named Sun Lakes United Methodist Church.
||A groundbreaking service was held on June 5, 1988 with our Fellowship Hall opening on Easter Sunday in March of 1989.In 1996 the Building Committee went into action in preparation for the new Sanctuary.|
||In 1998 our Sanctuary construction was underway.|
||In 1998 the stained glass windows were designed and developed for insertion into the Sanctuary.|
||The Church is a congregation of warm, loving, caring, helping, and welcoming hands so the design of helping hands was incorporated into the stained glass windows by Maureen McGovern. Fellowship Hall was completed in early 1989 with the Dedication being held on Easter Sunday of 1989.
In the Fall of 1989 we held a Service of Consecration, and in 1990 the Stephen Ministry Program was introduced.
“Truly, we are a congregation of hands extended in ministry.
We are the ‘Body of Christ’
with all of our faults, striving to be His Servant People”
Rev. Marshall Lindsay, Senior Pastor 1998
