New Members on July 31, 2018

Len and Irene Anderson are transferring their membership from Lord of Life Lutheran Church in Maple Grove, Minnesota. Len spent his childhood in Lakefield, Minnesota and is a retired purchasing manager. He enjoys horseshoes, golf, pool, and bocce ball. Irene also grew up in Lakefield. She is a retired Administrative Assistant. She enjoys water aerobics, golf, bridge, reading and crossword puzzles. They have two daughters and five grandchildren.

Bettina Baker is joining us in profession of faith. She was born in West Berlin, Germany and attended The Odessa College nursing program in Texas. Her accomplishments and joys in life are ballroom dancing, attending The Heritage School of Interior Design, and becoming an accomplished classical concert accordionist. Her interests are music, dance, reading, interior design, self-care and well-being.

Bill and Linda Beagles are transferring their membership from Dayspring UMC. Bill was born and raised in Montpelier, ID. He graduated from the Univ. of Washington and the Univ. of Utah. Bill earned the rank of Eagle Scout. He served in the Navy Air Reserve as a pilot, after which he joined Boeing. Boeing sent Bill and his family to Japan, where they lived for 12 years. While in Tokyo, Bill served as CEO of Boeing Japan as well as President of the Amer. Chamber of Commerce. Bill enjoys stock trading, reading and fly fishing. Linda grew up in Yakima, WA. She was a cheerleader in high school, a member of the Husky Honeys at the Univ. of Washington, and in Pi Beta Phi Sorority. Linda enjoys crafts and is an avid quilter. They have traveled extensively in Asia and Europe. Together they have four children and eight grandchildren. And Linda just got a cat.

Linda Boyer is transferring her membership from Munsey United Methodist Church in Johnson City, Tennessee. She was born and raised in Pittsburgh, PA and attended Clarion Univ. of Pennsylvania, Western Michigan Univ. and La Salle Univ. Linda is a lifetime learner and has her Masters in Behavior and Learning Disabilities and a Ph.D. She completed her work as an Education Professor. She is retired after 37 years of teaching and owning a tutoring business. She enjoys bible study, music, movies, stone cutting and polishing gemstones, and making jewelry with her family. She has three children and five grandchildren.

Don and Ellyn Martin (photo of Don not available) are transferring their affiliate membership from Bear Creek Methodist in Woodinville, WA. They have had an affiliate membership with us since 2001. Don is originally from Scottsbluff, NE and Ellyn from Grand Rapids, MI.  Don retired from Cigna property casualty claims and Ellyn as a self-employed elementary teacher. They have been snowbirds since 1999 and moved here permanently in May 2017. Don enjoys golf, bike riding, thrift shopping and bridge. Ellyn enjoys water aerobics, crafts, reading and bridge. She has been part of our Krafters, involved in leadership of the bridge group and has volunteered with the coffee hour.

Peggy Osborne is transferring her membership from Chandler United Methodist Church. She was raised in the Panhandle of Texas and lived in California for 21 years. After her husband’s retirement, they moved to Arizona. She is retired from real estate. She was diagnosed with Multiple Sclerosis 26 years ago; she used to enjoy all kind of crafts and needlework. She has limited use of one hand, and now enjoys reading, playing cards and using computer technology for many things.

David and Charlotte Overley are transferring their membership from First United Methodist Church in Burnet, Texas. David was born and raised in Burnet and retired from Rowan Companies in Houston. The highlights of his life are meeting his wife and traveling around the world. He enjoys gardening and auto mechanics. Charlotte was raised in San Angelo, Texas. She attended the Univ. of Houston – Clear Lake, studying accounting. She is retired from NASA, Johnson Space Center. Her highlights are walking on the Great Wall of China, going around Cape Horn, South America and visiting Russia. She enjoys traveling, playing cards and surfing the internet.

Colleen Peterson (no photo available) is transferring her membership from Community United Methodist Church Ogden, Iowa. Colleen grew up and raised her family in Ogden. She has a degree in Early Childhood Education and currently works with Maricopa County Head Start & Early Head Start. She loves travelling and being active in the outdoors–specifically fishing, birding and biking. Vocal music has been a big part of her life and she enjoys teaching music to children. She has four children and two grandchildren, and awaiting the birth of three more grandchildren. Her son and his wife are expecting triplets!
Marnie Shepperd is re-affirming her faith. She grew up in the Midwest and attended Kent State Univ. in Ohio. Marnie is retired as a Technical Writer from Motorola, Lockheed-Martin and Aetna. She lived in Germany for several years before moving to Arizona; she has come to enjoy Arizona culture and the desert. Her interests are gardening, crafts, community groups, genealogy, birding and dog rescue clubs. She is looking forward to serving at SLUMC.

Bruce and Jane Watkins are joining us in profession of faith. Bruce was raised in Portland, OR and spent time in Huntington Beach, CA.  He is a former Marine and is retired from the insurance business. His interest and best part of the day is golf.  Jane grew up in a large family in Sioux City, Iowa. She has managed a beauty salon and is also retired from the insurance business. The highlights of her life are family, being one of the original founders for CAPTEAM Community Assistance, Fire Board Member and volunteering with Neighbors Who Care. She enjoys friends, high school reunions, golf, cooking, pet sitting and caregiving social activities.
