The following motion was made on behalf of the Building Committee at the special Church Conference. The motion provided the basis to sign the construction contract on Tuesday January 27. It passed unanimously. All funding is in place to proceed with the target dedication date Sunday December 6, 1998

SLUMC Special Church Conference

"New Sanctuary" Funding

11:15 A. M. Sunday January 25, 1998

Motion

On behalf of the Building Committee, I move:

  1. The Trustees be authorized to execute the new sanctuary construction contract titled " Standard Form Of Agreement Between Owner (SLUMC) and Contractor (Redden Construction Inc.) 1987 Edition – Dated 1/27/98" committing the Church to an estimated not-to-exceed expenditure of $1,710.000.
  2. The Trustees be authorized to execute a loan in an amount not-to-exceed of $900,000 from the United Methodist Development Fund (UMDF). This loan coupled with new sanctuary (building fund) pledges to pay for the construction as defined in the contract of (1) above and miscellaneous new sanctuary expenses. Interest on the loan to be paid from general Church funds.
  3. That additional "Designated Gifts" in the approximate amount of $117,000 be solicited to cover the costs of:

These items not allowed to be financed by the UMDF loan of (2) above.

*Note: Center Stained Glass Window ($6,000) already paid – Designated Gift

  1. That the Building Committee it concert with the Administrative Board and Trustees work with the architect and the contractor towards completion by Sunday December 6, 1998 – the targeted dedication date.
