The Mission of Sun Lakes
United Methodist Church Choir
“The choir is the primary musical ensemble providing weekly worship leadership. Its role is to lead and encourage congregational singing and to present inspirational anthems of prayer, praise and devotion.”
As part of the Music Ministry of Sun Lakes UMC we strive…
To Inspire: Through our music we create an atmosphere that helps worshippers experience the moving of the spirit, hearing what God has to say to us and sensing where He will lead.
To Teach: Much of what we think about God comes from the music we hear and sing. The texts of our music come from various sources (scriptures, sacred poetry and prose, formal liturgy).
To Enrich: The congregation entrusts us to be a significant force that shapes and enhances their worship experience. As we fulfill our responsibilities as a choir, we too are inspired and moved by God.
To Educate: Membership in our choir assumes a willingness and desire to further our own musical education.
To Share: Along with singing during Sunday worship services, the choir prepares special music for Veteran’s Day, Christmas Eve, Good Friday, Palm Sunday and Easter to share with the congregation and the community. The choir prepares a larger choral work with an instrumental ensemble each year for Christmas.
To Provide Fellowship: Our choir is very much a smaller family within the greater Church community. We are a wonderful mixture of personalities. We enjoy each other’s company and value the “fun” as an important ingredient within the “hard work”.
Do you enjoy singing?
If so, come and join the Sun Lakes UMC Choir. Don’t worry…there are no auditions! If you can read music, carry a tune, and want to worship God through song, you will be welcomed!
From September to May rehearsals are on Wednesday evenings and Sunday mornings before Church.
During the year the choir prepares music for several special events:
April — Good Friday — a very meaningful service that tells the story through music and readings of what Christ did for us. Easter Sunday brings rejoicing with uplifting music to celebrate the Risen Savior.
November — A Veteran’s Day program of patriotic songs to honor veterans.
December — The Christmas Cantata, featuring a 20-piece orchestra, an extensive work with music and readings to announce the birth of the baby Jesus.
Come and join the choir and experience a family-like atmosphere under the direction of Cris Evans, who feels that the choir is a conduit for spreading God’s teachings to the congregation, as well as to each choir member, through song.
