It can also help to reduce your chance of falling or bumping into things and causing injury. Ila Mackerman keeps your exercising which also helps to improve coordination, leg strength, and mobility. Cost: $2 per class.

United Women of Faith (UWF)

UWF is an international Christian membership organization where women grow spiritually, develop as leaders, and work together to create a better world. The organized unit of the UWF shall be a community of women whose purpose is to know God, experience freedom as whole persons through Jesus Christ, develop a creative supportive fellowship, and expand concepts of mission through participation in the global ministries of the Church. Activities include monthly group meetings, prayer, volunteer time, education, financial gifts, fun and fellowship.

Exercise: Yoga

Hatha Yoga is offered on Thursdays at 9:00 am from November 1 – May 1. It is a 1.5-hour class involving stretching and strengthening moves and poses. Hatha yoga concentrates on breathing, stretching and relaxation exercises. Class starts with a stretching warm-up and continues with deep breathing exercise, standing poses, and poses on a yoga mat, finishing with a relaxation and meditation period at the end of class. Geared toward the 55+ population it can be enjoyed by beginners as well as more experienced students. It does require the ability to get up and down from the floor (a chair can be used as a prop to aid you in doing this if necessary). Led by Becky Paschal-Snyder, cost $2 per class.

Krafters

The SLUMC Krafters are a vibrant group who gather every Monday from 12:30–3:00 pm in a well-equipped crafting space on the lower level of the Education Building, located on the north side of the church campus. United by their love for creativity and fellowship, members engage in a variety of activities including sewing, knitting, cross-stitching, painting, woodworking, floral arranging, and jewelry repair. Their main goal is to create items for the annual Christmas Bazaar and occasional mini-sales, with proceeds supporting both church and community initiatives. They also donate bagged jewelry to women’s shelters and supply fabric and materials for charitable projects. Newcomers are always warmly welcomed into this joyful and industrious environment.

Educational Ministries

Adult Sunday School

The Adult Sunday School Class welcomes everyone! The class meets on Sundays after the worship service, in Room 1 of the Education Building. Each lesson is based on a theme and centered around scripture. The class is open and honest, and everyone may express their thoughts and ideas. There are four presenters who take turns teaching the lesson from an interesting and informative perspective.

Bible Studies

Each quarter Sun Lakes UMC offers several six to eight-week courses in adult Christian education to aid in understanding the Bible, ancient church history, and the Christian faith. Recent offerings have included introductions to the Bible, the Old and New Testaments, the Bible Canon, as well as the books of Revelation, James, and the Psalms. Alpha, a gentle introduction to Christianity, allows individuals the opportunity to explore the Christian faith, asking questions, and sharing points of view.

Sweet Life Café

Meeting each Thursday for fellowship and education, Sweet Life Café spends time studying various topics such as angels, foods of the Bible, and world-wide religions. The Café is a great place to meet new people, increase your knowledge, and discuss different perspectives. Previous classes have studied Advent, Lent, prayer, and grace.

Support Ministries

Stephen Ministry

Sun Lakes United Methodist Church has a very active Stephen Ministry. The Stephen Ministry program is made up of members of our congregation who provide one-to-one ministry and who care, encourage, listen, share, and pray for you. Whether you are struggling with grief, long-term care, hospitalization, divorce, interpersonal relationships, discouraged, wrestling with faith and trust, or you need mentoring to maintain freedom in Christ a Stephen Minister is there for you to attend to the care-giving process and leave the results to God.

Prayer Team

A group of people committed to lifting in prayer members and friends of the church in an intentional manner. These “prayer warriors” meet weekly with a pastor to pray over the most recent concerns as a group, then are given a list of people to pray for in the intervening week. Prayer request boxes are in the narthex and in Lindsay Hall and are gathered each week for use in the group meeting. The group usually meets on Tuesday mornings in the chapel.

Care Callers

Our Care Callers offer the gift of connection through regular phone calls and notes to those who may be homebound, grieving, or in need of encouragement. This ministry helps ensure that every person in our church family feels remembered, supported, and cared for.

Eucharistic Ministers

Our Eucharistic Ministers extend the table of grace beyond Sunday worship by bringing Holy Communion to those unable to attend church in person. They visit homes, care facilities, and hospitals, offering prayer, presence, and the reminder that we are united in Christ wherever we are.

Veterans' Support and Circle of Honor

Our Veterans' Ministry honors and supports those who have served in the armed forces. Through fellowship, special events, and care outreach, we create space for veterans to connect, share their stories, and receive the appreciation and support of a grateful community.

Grief Group

Weekly grief support groups are held on the Church campus at various times and days. It is not GriefShare, but instead an informal gathering of people, who are experiencing grief and need a safe place to come, share, and discuss with others what they are going through. There may be a theme or idea focused on each week, but if the discussion leads elsewhere, we will go with the discussion. Participants will build and dictate the agenda each week. What is most important is participants have a safe place to share their real and genuine feelings and ideas.

Memorials and the Gardens

Memorial Services are held at Sun Lakes United Methodist Church; in the Sanctuary, seating up to 600 people, in the smaller Chapel which seats up to 80 people, or in the Gardens, a beautiful and reverent place to hold a committal or internment service, as well as a peaceful setting for reflective meditation. We assist in final disposition through arrangements with any licensed funeral director. All of these services are available to members and friends of Sun Lakes United Methodist Church or the greater Sun Lakes area.
