Krafters
SLUMC Krafters enjoy the wonderful camaraderie of like-minded women working in a beautifully equipped, well-stocked space on the lower level of the Education Building, located to the north side of the church campus. Meeting each Monday from 12:30 pm – 3:00 pm you will find many different crafty activities going on:
- Hand sewing
- Machine sewing
- Knitting/crocheting
- Cross-stitching
- Floral arrangement
- Painting
- Wood working
We also accept, clean, and repair all sorts of jewelry. The focus of our endeavors is building an inventory of product to be sold at the annual (November) Christmas Bazaar with mini sales once or twice a year. We routinely bag jewelry to be given to various women’s shelters and provide fabric and notions when requested for other causes. The proceeds from the fund-raising activities are used to provide support around the church campus or within the community. The happy buzz that greets you as you enter the building will lead you down to the beehive of industry and you will be welcomed to participate in whatever area you desire.
‘We Are The Clay’ - Men’s Group
United Women of Faith (UWF)
UWF is an international Christian membership organization where women grow spiritually, develop as leaders, and work together to create a better world. The organized unit of the UWF shall be a community of women whose purpose is to know God, experience freedom as whole persons through Jesus Christ, develop a creative supportive fellowship, and expand concepts of mission through participation in the global ministries of the Church. Activities include monthly group meetings, prayer, volunteer time, education, financial gifts, fun and fellowship.
Missions
Deuteronomy 15:7 “if there is among you a poor man of your brethren, within any of the gates in your land which the Lord your God is giving you, you shall not harden your heart nor shut your hand from your poor brother…”
The mission of the Church is to make disciples of Jesus Christ. John Wesley felt that gratitude toward God “cannot but produce benevolence to our fellow creatures.” The Missions Team seeks to follow both directives by being a channel for “acts of benevolence” toward our community, our state, our nation, and our world. Our hope is that the love and caring of this congregation shines like a beacon for all to see. To do that we prioritize the needs with the assets available and try to distribute money and goods where they will be of the greatest benefit to those who receive them, responding to local, national, and international issues.
A few of the organizations the Missions Team is involved with are:
- Angler’s Club – teaches disadvantaged kids to fish
