Weekly Adult Bible Study
An Adult Bible Study Class is given after the first service on Sunday mornings in Room 1 of the Education Building. This class uses the study books “Uniform Series International Bible Lesson for Christian Living.” The time for Adult Bible Study is 10:30 am. Please join us – we would love to get to know you! To help with your Bible Study we offer this explanation for the version of the Bible that we use at Sun Lakes UMC.
The United Methodist Church does not have an “official” version or translation of the Bible. Only the General Conference can designate specific ritual texts or other liturgical or teaching resources as official. Protestant denominations never designate a single Bible translation for use. Rather United Methodists affirm the usefulness of a number of translations and versions as being helpful for study, teaching, memorization and other purposes, since each sheds a slightly different light in translating or paraphrasing the original languages and manuscripts.
When it comes to United Methodist teaching resources published by The United Methodist Publishing House (UMPH), the Common English Bible (CEB) and the New Revised Standard Version (NRSV) are the texts preferred by the General Board of Discipleship for curriculum. Curriculum writers and editors for Cokesbury curriculum usually will cite the Common English Bible. However, writers can consult other versions or quote from them when doing so strengthens the teaching resource.
We hope you will join us for a future Bible Study at Sun Lakes United Methodist Church.
